An element. State: solid; group: IIIB (lanthanide series); atomic no.: 59; atomic wt.: 140.9077; valence: 3,4. A member of the rare-earth group of elements, praseodymium is a rather soft crystalline solid; m.p. 935 °C (1715 °F), obtained from monazite sands. The metallic form is similar to iron in color, and many of its compounds have a pronounced greenish shade.
Note :
It has limited use in ceramics and glass manufacture and a catalyst and phosphor. It has a number of specialized applications in metallurgy.
