Erbium, m.p. 1522 °C (2771 °F), is closely related to yttrium and terbium, all of which were discovered in Sweden in gadolinite ore and were later found in other ores. Strongly electropositive, it is a member of the rare earth family; it is readily flammable and has a high electrical resistivity, 87 microhm-cm as compared with copper, 1.67 microhm-cm, at room temperature.
Note :
It is used in lasers, magnetic alloys, and similar specialized devices. It forms compounds with the halogens and also appears as the nitrate, oxalate, phosphate, carbonate, and acetate.
