An element. State: solid; group: IIIA; atomic no.: 49; atomic Wt.: 114.82; valence: 1.3; isotopes: 2 stable. Indium is a very soft, silvery metal, m.p. 156.6 =C (314 °F), always occurring as a component of ores of other metals; it is corrosion-resistant at room temperature and thus is used as a coating for bearings. It alloys readily with many other metals, the products being used for brazing and soldering. It is also useful in semiconductor and electronic technology. In reactions, indium is able to form covalent rather than ionic bonds. It has no toxic properties.
Note :
Indium is produced in considerable volume in Japan and to a lesser extent in British Columbia and Peru.
