Définition :
Traitement qui consiste à administrer à une personne transsexuelle des hormones du sexe opposé afin d'inhiber la sécrétion d'hormones endogènes pour minimiser les caractères sexuels secondaires biologiques et stimuler le développement de ceux du genre désiré.
Notes :
Un traitement hormonal de réassignation sexuelle ne peut être envisagé qu'après confirmation du diagnostic de dysphorie de genre. Il sera féminisant ou masculinisant, selon le sexe biologique du patient. Il est recommandé pour certaines chirurgies de réassignation sexuelle.
Les traitements hormonaux de réassignation sexuelle entraînent des changements partiellement réversibles et irréversibles. Certains changements vont nécessiter une chirurgie réparatrice pour en limiter ou en inverser les effets, comme la gynécomastie causée par les estrogènes. D'autres changements, comme la gravité de la voix induite par la testostérone, sont irréversibles.

Treatment in which opposite sex hormones are administered to a transsexual person, inhibiting the secretion of the endogenous ones, in order to minimize the biological secondary sexual characteristics and to enable the development of those from the desired gender.
Notes :
Cross-sex hormone therapy can be considered only after confirmation of gender dysphoria diagnosis. The treatment is feminizing or masculinizing following the patient's biological sex and is recommended for certain sexual reassignment surgery.
