These terms (masculinization of the torso, masculinizing top surgery, FTM top surgery, transmasculine top surgery) are used in texts that are intended for the general public.
When the term top surgery is used without a classifying adjective as masculinizing and transmasculine, it can also designate the feminizing breast augmentation. Moreover, top surgery sometimes refers to mastectomy in the common language. To be more precise with this term, it is preferable to use a classifying adjective.
These terms (chest surgery, chest reconstruction, chest reconstructive surgery, male chest reconstruction) are not reserved to sexual reassignment surgery. However, they are accepted as synonyms for the preferred terms when the context makes it clear that it is for such intervention. In order to avoid any ambiguity, it is a better choice to use one of the preferred terms.
