  According to specialists consulted, the term "trimming device", normally used to designate what would be called in French « compensateur de régime » (as defined above), is more often used in a wider sense to designate both « les compensateurs de régime » and « les compensateurs d'évolution ».
  
  Trimming of control surfaces may be accomplished by mechanical trimming devices. In this case, trimming is known as "mechanical trimming". Trimming is most frequently performed aerodynamically (for example tabs). The distinction between the two precise term: compensateur mécanique/compensateur aérodynamique. English qualifies the term "trimming device" only when the trimming is mechanical. When trimming is accomplished aerodynamically, we simply refer to as "trimming device".
