  First described in 1958, it is based upon the increased current obtained as a result of burning the column effluent gas with hydrogen and air at a small jet with an applied potential between this and the collector electrode; the burning of solutes in the flame leads to improved conductivity through the ions created and the resulting increased current is used to actuate a chart recorder.
  
  ((This detector handles)) carrier gas flows to 200 cc/mn and solvent injection volumes to 50 ml without extinguishing.
