  A rotating tool having many teeth suitable for cutting screw threads.

  Note :

  Thread milling cutters may be divided into two classes: 1) single-thread-milling cutters, and 2) multiple-thread-milling cutters; single-thread-milling cutters are made solid (shank-type) or arbor type, and either profile-sharpened or form-relieved; multiple-thread-milling cutters have a series of annular rows of teeth with form and pitch but no lead; they are form-relieved in either solid (shank) or arbor type; the majority of multiple-thread-milling cutters are of the non-topping type; the outside diameter of external work and the minor diameter of internal thread are finished to size by other means prior to thread milling; the cutter mills only the flanks and root, whereas a topping cutter mills the flanks, root, and the outside diameter, producing a thread having concentricity between major, minor, and pitch diameters.
