A printing process where the image (ink accepting) and the non-printing (ink rejecting) areas lie in the same plane.

A generic term used for any and all printing processes in which a flat surface is used, i.e. where the image sections are substantially in the same plane as the non-image sections (such as direct and offset lithography, or collotype).
