The distinction between MWe and MWt is an important one as the former refers to electrical energy and the latter to thermal energy. For instance, the heat output of a nuclear reactor or power station boiler may be given in MWt units, but the electrical output of the turbogenerator which utilizes this energy output is quoted in MWe units.
