Date :Définition
Colourless, evil-smellin gas with applications as a polymerisation catalyst, especially for ethylene, intermediate for organic boron compounds, and as a fuel for rocket.
A highly flammable and explosive gas composed of boron and hydrogen (B2H6); it will ignite at the unusually low temperature of 38 °C (100 °F). It is stored in cylinders in a cool, dry environment.Note :
Carbon tetrachloride and other halogenated extinguishing agents must not be used! It is made by the reaction of hydrogen and boron trichloride, or (b) by the reaction of lithium aluminum hybride and boron trichloride in ether. The gas has a strong, unpleasant smell and is also highly toxic. Its industrial uses as limited to synthesis of organic boron compounds and as a source of boron for doping crystals in semiconductors. It was formerly considered promising for rocket fuels, but this application has not been developed.
