Date :Définition
An organometallic complex in which an iron atom is coordinated with a cyclic unsaturated structure (cyclopentadiene); it has the formula Fe(C5H5)2.
Note :
Discovered in 1951, it was the first of a broad group of organometallic "sandwhich" compounds, so-called because the metal atom is located halfway between the two organic rings. Ferrocene is quite stable, melts at 173 °C (343 °F), resists pyrolysis at 400 °C (752 °F), and reacts in the same way as aromatic compounds. It reduces smoke emanation from fuel oils and has some applications as a catalyst and knock suppressor in gasoline.
