Date :Définition
Two unsaturated hydrocarbon gases are included under this name: butene-1 (formula CH2=CHCH2CH3) and butene-2 (formula CH3CH=CHCH3); the latter has both cis- and trans- isomers. The butenes are derived from petroleum refinery gases and are used in making butadiene, high-grade gasolines, and as sources of synthetic chemicals containing four and five carbon atoms in the chain.
Note :
They are highly flammable and explosive and are shipped in steel cylinders. Butene-1 can be polymerized to polybutene to form a useful elastomeric plastic. Butenes are widely used in liquefied form as household and industrial fuels (LPG).
