An anhydrous salt of sulfuric acid which occurs in nature in the form of salt cake (western U.S.) and is manufactured by the reaction 2NaCl + H2SO4 - 2HCl + Na2SO4; it is also obtained in the manufacture of phenol.
Note :
The hydrated form is known as Glauber's salt. It is used in tonnage quantities in the production of paper and glass, and has minor applications in the textile, leather, and pharmaceutical fields.
