A water-soluble inorganic acid which, in the solid state, consists of dark red granules derived from sodium chromate by reaction with sulfuric acid, or from chromite ore.
A powerful oxidant with uses as a catalyst.Note :
It is an extremely strong oxidizing agent and is corrosive to tissue; safe handling requires that it be kept away from organic materials and reducing agents, as it may ignite or even explode on contact. It has a variety of uses, among which are as a chemical intermediate, as a colorant in ceramic products, in metal cleaning, and in plating. Its chemicalformula is CrO3 (anhydrous), whereas in solution it is H2CrO4.
