Date :Définition
A crystalline organic compound, m.p. 133 °C (271 °F), belonging to the amide group and commercially derived from ammonia and carbon dioxide at high temperature and pressure. It also occurs as a metabolic product in urine. Its formula is CO(NH2)2.
Note :
It was the first organic compound to be made synthetically. In 1828 the German chemist Friedrich Wöhler published his observations of its formation by molecular rearrangement of ammonium cyanate: NH4OCN → (NH2)2CO. Urea is manufactured on a large scale for use in fertilizers and as a component of ureaformaldehyde and urea melamine resins.
