Date :Définition
This term refers to a major and the oldest branch of chemistry and is concerned with substances which do not contain carbon, with several exceptions: such binary compounds as the carbon oxides, the carbides, carbon disulfide, etc.; such ternary compounds as the metallic cyanides, metallic carbonyls, phosgene (COCl2), carbonyl, sulfide (COS), etc.; and the metallic carbonates, such as calcium carbonate and sodium carbonate.
Note :
Primarily, the field of inorganic chemistry centers around the elements other than carbon and their compounds, including much of physical chemistry, atomic structure, chemical bonding electrochemistry, and coordination chemistry. Another view is that inorganic chemistry includes all substances except the hydrocarbons and their derivatives; however, organic chemistry is also concerned with compounds containing such elements as nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, etc., in addition to hydrogen and carbon, e.g., the carbohydrates. There is no sharp dividing line between inorganic and organic chemistry in view of the many borderline cases such as organometallic compounds, electroorganic reactions, etc.
