Ratio between the energy output of a process and the amount of energy input to that process.

Note :

An example of its application is in the study of energy flows in agricultural production processes. Because of the increased mechanization of agriculture and application of energy-intensive fertilizers, the energy ratios associated with modern production systems are markedly lower than those prevailing in less sophisticated agricultural economics where the principal energy inputs are traditionally human and animal labour.
