Définition :
Effectue des recherches sur les bases mathématiques de la statistique, renouvelle et améliore la méthodologie statistique et donne des avis sur les applications pratiques des méthodes et des techniques statistiques : étudie les théories des probabilités, de l'inférence et de la variance, ainsi que d'autres théories et preuves mathématiques qui sont à la base des statistiques, afin de découvrir des bases mathématiques pour l'élaboration de méthodes nouvelles et perfectionnées de rassemblement et d'évaluation de données numériques; met au point et essaie de nouvelles méthodes statistiques; procède à des expériences d'application de méthodes de sondage et de techniques analytiques et formule des recommandations sur l'utilisation des méthodes et techniques statistiques à des fins particulières; étudie et évalue les méthodes statistiques utilisées par d'autres spécialistes, tels que les spécialistes des statistiques appliquées, de la physique, de la biologie et des sciences sociales.
