A machine tool designed to: 1) eliminate tedious and makeshift hole-locating procedures on tool work and facilitate rapid production of high-precision tools; 2) serve as a jigless production machine for limited quantities or as a production machine where precision would be unattainable otherwise, regardless of quantity; and 3) serve as an inspection means for work produced either on the jig boring machine or elsewhere; in general, the jig boring machine employs a vertical precision spindle and a table to hold the work, the table and/or spindle being movable with built-in measuring devices; three different types of measuring systems are employed: 1) end measures, 2) graduated scale, and 3) micrometer lead screw; the main spindle carries rotating tools such as drills, boring tools, spotting tools and small milling cutters.
