Définition :
Croissance prépondérante ou exclusive du méristème d'une pousse terminale d'une plante, par opposition au développement des bourgeons latéraux inférieurs.
Note :
À des différences de degré de dominance apicale correspondent des différences de port, comme p. ex. entre un épicéa, un hêtre, une ronce, etc.
