Définition :
Opération qui consiste à placer une portion de plante (le greffon) en contact cambial avec une autre plante racinée (le sujet ou porte-greffe), ou avec une autre partie racinée, de la même plante, dans le but d'obtenir une bonne union végétative entre les deux, le greffon étant détaché de sa plante-mère soit avant, soit après l'opération.

(1) L'anglais graft désigne aussi bien l'emplacement de l'opération que son résultat, la greffe; (2) après greffage, le génétype de chacune des parties reste inchangé; mais pas le phénotype; (3) on observe parfois dans la nature des greffes naturelles, notamment des greffes racinaires.

Placing a portion - the scion - of one plant in close cambial contact with the cambial layer of another plant or another part of the same plant (generally rooted), with the object of securing vegetative union between the two, the scion being detached from its parent plant either before or after the operation.
Note :
(1) Both the site of union and the composite individual are termed grafts. (2) The genotype, but not necessarily the phenotype of the rootstock and the scion, remains unchanged after grafting. (3) Vegetative union occurring naturally is termed a natural graft; commonest between roots (root graft).
