  Définition

  A short piece of round or partround wood, as cut for cordwood, shingles, cooperage stock, pulping, and rotary veneer.

  Note :

  (1) No clear distinction can be drawn between billet, block and bolt; in current usage a billet is generally smaller in cross-section than a block or bolt, while a block may show none of the original, rounded log surface. (2) A billet prepared for rotary-veneer cutting is termed a peeler block; for shingles, shingle bolt; for staves, stave bolt; for pulping, pulpwood bolt.
