Petite pièce de bois équarrie-sciée destinée à être placée comme un chapiteau au-dessus d'un étai de mine (c'est-à-dire entre l'étai et la bille); le fil doit en être parallèle au toit, sa largeur un peu supérieure au diamètre de l'étai, et sa longueur à peu près trois fois supérieure.

Note :

Une pièce semblable destinée à être placée sous un étai est une semelle.
