  An element. State: solid; Group IIIB (Actinide Series); Atomic No: 101; Atomic Wt: 256(?); Valence 2,3. A synthetic radioactive element discovered in 1955 an dmade by bombardement of einsteinium in a cyclotron. The half-life of the 256 isotope is 1.5 hours and that of the heaviest isotope (258) is 2 months.

  Note :

  The element is named after Dmitri Mendeleef, discoverer of the Periodic System. It can be produced only in quantities measured in numbers of atoms.
