Note :
State: solid; group: IIIB (actinide series); atomic wt.: 245; valence: 2,3,4; atomic no.: 98. It was made in 1950 by helium bombardment of curium. The 249 isotope has a half-life of 360 years. It forms compounds with halogens and oxygen. The 252 and 249 isotopes have been made in minute quantities, Californium is a bone-seeking element for which the body has a very low tolerance; it has a few specialized medical applications.
