  In the United Kingdom, a bottoming tap is sometimes referred to as a plug tap, which is at variance with terminology used in the USA, where the plug tap corresponds with the British Standard second tap. To avoid any confusion, the ((British)) Standard ((BS 949:1969)) defines the three tap types as "taper tap", "second tap", and "bottoming tap".
