Définition :
Création artificielle aux abords du puits, d'une zone dans laquelle l'écoulement des fluides est facilité, soit par accroissement de la perméabilité de la formation, soit par réduction de la viscosité de ces fluides.
Note :
Parmi les nombreuses méthodes de stimulation, citons la fracturation de la roche réservoir aux abords du puits (par fracturation hydraulique, par explosifs...) et les traitements acides qui affectent la perméabilité de la formation (acidification).

The technique of getting more production from a downhole formation, achieved by the artificial creation in the vicinity of the well of a zone in which the movement of fluids is facilitated, either by increasing the permeability of the formation or by reducing the viscosity of the fluids.
Note :
Among the many methods of stimulation may be cited as example, fracturing the reservoir rock in the vicinity of the well (hydraulic fracturing, underground explosion) and acid treatment to improve the permeability of the formation (acidizing).
