An unsaturated primary alcohol, b.p. 230 °C (446 °F), derived from terpenes (citronella and palmerosa essential oils); it is optically active, with a smell suggestive of geraniums. It is used to impart odor to soaps and as a food additive (flavoring). The formula is C2H15CH2OH. It is major component of geranium oil.
