A compound of silicon and oxygen in which each atom of silicon is bonded to four oxygen atoms, forming a tetrahedral structure, in a manner analogous to the bonding of carbon hydrogen in methane, the bonds being of about the same strength in each case.

Compound having the formula H₃Si(OSiH₂)n OSiH₃.

Note :

This structure is found in the dioxide and in silicates generally, where the SiO₄ groups occur in chains or rings.
