Date :Définition
The unsaturated group ((...)) which occurs in a wide range of organic compounds, including aldehydes, ketones, sugars, and organic acids. Its reactivity is strongly affected by the element or group to which it is attached (hydrogen, oxygen, hydrocarbon, amine, etc.). For example, it is much more active in aldehydes and ketones than in organic acids. In industrial processes, it results catalytic oxydation of alcohols at high temperature, as well as from oxidation of hydrocarbons.
Note :
A carbonyl group may form a coordination compound with either one or two atoms of a heavy metal, such as nickel, iron, or cobalt, by reaction with carbon monoxide. Of these metal carbonyls, nickel carbonyl, Ni(CO)4, is noted for its toxicity, as it evolves carbon monoxide above 38 °C (100 °F). Together with several other metal carbonyls, it has knock-suppressing properties in gasoline.
