Rhenium is a silver-gray metal; it has almost twice the density of lead, and it has a very high melting point, 3170 °C (5738 °F), which places it in the category or refractory metals. It is quite stable but forms compounds with all the halogens and oxidizes strongly on heating. It is resistant to hydrochloric acid but is attacked by nitric and sulfuric acids.
Note :
It is molded by powder metallurgy techniques, is a component of thermocouple alloys, and has numerous applications in electronic devices. It can also be electroplated. It high cost limits its use to specialty items.
