Date :Définition
An element. State: Solid; Group: IIIA; Atomic No.: 81; Atomic Wt.: 204.37; Valence: 1,3; Isotopes: 2 stable. Thallium is a relatively heavy metal of low melting point, 303 °C (577 °F), occurring at an average concentration of about 1 gram per ton in the earth's crust; its highest concentrations, as in potassium-containing minerals, are too few to be economically workable. Thallium compounds can be recovered from ty-products of zinc smelting, and the metal obtained by various separation techniques. The metal oxidizes in air to form a protective oxide coating. Its uses in metallic form are chiefly in alloys with bismuth, cadmium, mercury, etc.
Note :
As it is quite poisonous, its compounds have been used in rodenticides and various insecticides; it also has limited application in photoelectric devices.
