Date :Définition
A salt of perchloric acid HClO4, in which chlorine has a valence of +7. The most common perchlorate is sodium perchlorate, NaClO4, a colorless crystalline solid salt, m.p. 482 °C (900 °F), soluble in water, and a powerful oxidizing agent. It is produced by the electrolysis of sodium chlorate in a cell with platinum anodes and steel cathodes, the resulting sodium perchlorate being separated from the residual sodium chlorate by fractional crystallization.
Note :
It is used in some explosives and is the source of perchloric acid and other perchlorates, such as ammonium perchlorate, NH4ClO4, used in solid jet propulsion compositions. While the most stable of the positive chlorine compounds, it is a dangerous fire and explosion risk when in contact with reducing and organic materials and with acids. It is moderately toxic.
