Date :Définition
The essential compound for production of polyurethane resins; it is derived by first nitrating toluene and then reacting the resulting amine with phosgene to form a molecule in which two isocyanate groups (NCO) are attached to the ring at the 2,4 or 2,6 positions.
Note :
Urethane (CONCH2OC2H5) and its polymers are formed by a condensation reaction of diisocyanate with, for example, ethylene glycol. A so-called hindered isocyanate may be made by using phenol; this combination gives a urethane which may be kept for some time at normal temperature but which will decompose to the isocyanate when heated.
