A deliquescent solid made by reacting calcium carbonate with hydrochloric acid; it has the formula CaCl2. It is also obtained from brines and from the manufacture of sodium compounds by various methods. It is corrosive to metals unless promptly removed by washing. It often occurs in the form of a hydrate with one, two, or six molecules of water.
Food additive to milk products.Note :
Calcium chloride has a number of uses including pulp and paper treatment, deicing of highways, as a desiccating agent, and in food products as a sequestering agent. It is essentially nontoxic.
