Date :Définition
A gaseous, chlorinated olefin, CH2=CHCl, b.p. - 13.9 °C (8.4 °F), the most important vinyl compound and the basis for the widely used polyvinyl chloride polymers. It is made by dehydrochlorination of dichloroethane, the removal of HCl from C2H4Cl2; (b) the addition of HCl to acetylene over a mercury catalyst, HC = HC + HCl; and (c) the oxychlorination of ethylene with HCl and oxygen.
Note :
Its multibillion pounds per year production accounts for the largest single use of chlorine. It is used for the production of polyvinyl chloride and copolymers, in chemical synthesis, and in adhesives for plastics. The gas is highly flammable and a severe fire and explosion risk; the explosive limits in air are 4 to 22%. As a result of indications that prolonged exposure to its fumes is carcinogenic, its concentration in plant atmospheres is limited to one part per million.
