Définition :
Séparation d'un composé chimique en ses éléments.
Note :
Dans la nature, les micro-organismes décomposent les animaux et végétaux morts en composés plus simples. Les combustibles fossiles résultent d'une telle décomposition, il y a des millions d'années.

Date :Définition
The breakdown of chemical compounds into simpler molecules.
Notes :
Decomposition is important in nature for dead animals and plants are broken down by microorganisms into simpler chemicals; in this way organic compounds are circulated. Fossil fules are products of decomposition and other changes over millions or years.
A type of chemical reaction in which one compound divides or splits into two or more simpler substances, which may be either elements or compounds. The decomposition of an inorganic compound into two elements is exemplified by the reaction 2H2O → 2H2 + O2; decomposition of a compound into two compounds is shown by the reaction CaCO3 → CaO K CO2. Energy must be supplied for both these reactions; the first is accomplished by an alectric current and the second by heat. Another example is the decomposition of an organic compound, induced by bacteria, which serve as catalysts in fermentation reactions: C6H12O6 → 2C2H5OH + 2CO2.Terme :
