Date :Définition
Though it occurs in nature as the ore magnesite, commercial magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) is made by reacting magnesium sulfate with sodium carbonate; the product is a very light, fluffy powder which flies about in the air and is extremely light, a cubic food weighing only 4 pounds.
Note :
It is used in foods and cosmetics to prevent caking, in rubber and plastics as a stiffening agent, and as a component of insulating materials. As its refractive index is identical with that of natural rubber, it can be used in quite high percentage in translucent rubber products. As it tends to repel water (hydrophobic), it can be used as a drying agent.
