Matière obtenue par un traitement chimique approprié du bois ou d'autres végétaux ligneux. Ce traitement est destiné à éliminer presque exclusivement la lignine.
Note :
L'holocellulose comprend toutes les fractions cellulosiques et hémicellulosiques du bois, ainsi que quelques résidus de lignine, quelques composés azotés et substances inorganiques.

The insoluble residue obtained by subjecting wood or other plant materials to treatments designed to remove only lignin and extraneous substances.
The carbohydrate component of wood; depending on the species and botanical nature of the wood, its holocellulose content varies between 67 and 80%, the remainder being lignin, holocellulose is not soluble in water; it is composed of alpha-cellulose (insoluble in strong caustic) and hemicellulose (soluble in weak caustic).Notes :
In practice, holocellulose contains almost all the polysaccharides (including cellulose and hemicellulose) together with small amounts of residual lignins, nitrogenous compounds and inorganic substances.
