Date :Définition
Descriptive of a mixture or solution of two or more substances or materials, regardless of whether or not their dispersion in one another is uniform. Exemples are (for gases) air at sea level; (for liquids) gasoline; (for solids) marble, alloys; (for colloidals dispersions) milk, rubber latex.
Note :
All heterogeneous mixtures can be separated by physical means, e.g., evaporation, distillation, filtration, sedimentation, etc.; they are not chemically united but are mixtures of different substances, as indicated by the derivation of the term, from hetero (different) and gen (kind). In heterogeneous catalysis, the catalyst and the feedstock constitue two separate phases, e.g., as when a hydrocarbon gas is passed over a fixed bed of catalyst.
