Having strong affinity for a liquid; the term is usually used to describe a finely divided or colloidal substance in a solvent dispersion.
Note :
The opposite term is lyphobic, meaning a finely divided material that repels liquids. In both cases, if water is the liquid, the more exact term is hydrophilic (or hydrophobic); if an organic solvent is involved, the respective terms are organophilic and organophobic.
