Date :Définition
A force vector exhibited in molecules having closely juxtaposed positive and negative charges, which constitute an electric dipole.
Note :
The value of a given dipole moment is expressed in electrostatic units (e.s.u.). It is due to variations in the location of nuclear (positive) charges and electronic (negative) charges in the molecule. It occurs in such polar compounds as nitro-benzene, acetronitrile, benzaldehyde, water, alcohols, and amino acids; hydrocarbon liquids have a very low value, and carbon dioxide and carbon tetrachloride have none.
