  Définition

  The activity coefficient of a substance may be defined as the ratio of the effective contribution of the substance to a phenomenon to the actual contribution of the substance to the phenomenon. In the case of gases, the effective pressure of a gas is represented by the fugacity, f, and the actual pressure of the gas by P. The activity coefficient, γ, of the gas is then given by γ=f/P. In solutions the activity coefficient is equal to unity at infinite dilution of the solute and then deviates from unity as the concentration increases.
