A term used to characterize water-soluble salts usually in finely divided form (small plates, crystals), which not only absorb moisture from the air, but tend to soften and even dissolve as a result of this absorption. Examples of common deliquescent materials are calcium and magnesium chlorides, sodium hydroxide, and calcium nitrate.
Note :
All such substances should be kept in well-stoppered bottles or in tightly closed containers.
