  Définition

  Reduction of the particle size of solids by mechanical action; for very large sizes this is done in a crusher, and further size reduction is carried out in grinding machines of one kind or another, e.g., ball mill or hammer mill. Under special conditions, particle sizes approaching the colloidal range (1 micron diameter) can be achieved.

  Note :

  Industrial comminution occurs in the manufacture of cement, paints, pigments, ceramics.
