Note :

Les hydrocarbures aromatiques les plus importants sont les BTX (benzène, toluène, xylène), le styrène, le cumène et l'éthylbenzène qui sont tous des charges importantes en pétrochimie ou sont utilisés dans la fabrication des supercarburants.

Compounds, or mixtures of compounds, containing benzene rings in their molecules.

Note :

The simplest aromatic is benzene, C₆H₆: more complex aromatics consist of combinations of this basic molecular block with others, such as alkyl groups. Aromatics are found in considerable quantity in the low boiling distillates of crude oils, and can also be manufactured by catalytic reforming of naphthenes and certain alkanes. Aromatics are useful anti-knock additives for gasolines, but adversely affect the burning properties of kerosenes and gas oils. Certain aromatics, notably benzene, toluene and xylene are prepared in large quantities for use as solvents and chemical intermediates.
