Date :Définition
A kind of hydraulic turbine used in hydroelectric schemes to drive generators and generate electricity. The Francis turbine is a reaction turbine, running full of water and submerged and is used for medium heads of between 50 metres and 500 metres.
Francis turbines. These are reaction turbines in which water flows radially inwards into guide vanes which direct it onto the curved blades of the runner. ((...)) Francis turbines run full of water and submerged. They have a draught tube and there is a continuous column of water from head to tail race. The angle of the guide vanes can be adjusted so that the direction of water flow is changed and the turbine speed regulated. The shaft may be horizontal or vertical though the latter is more common.
