A heavy oblong tub with low walls, thick rim and flat bottom with a small drain-hole at one end.
Note :
Most of the known examples come from cemeteries, where they have been found used as coffins for the burial of small children. Although some larnakes seem certainly to have been made for sepulchral use, the primary purpose of the shape seems most likely domestic; the argument that they were made as babies' bathtubs finds considerable support in the special fabric of which the Agora examples are made. The tubs are heavy-walled and handbuilt of household ware tempered with straw, the interior and the rim is covered with a thick glaze, fired red to black. This fabric appears to be peculiar to bathtubs (...).
