A wine cooler in the form of a bulbous vase with a deep hollow stem.
Note :
It was almost entirely filled with wine and often floated in a large krater of cold water, as the Athenians preferred to drink their wine slightly chilled. Occasionally psykters were provided with small loop handles set high on the shoulder through which a cord was passed and served as a handle. It seems that only the psykters with handles were given covers.
